You deserve a break today. Rather than one topic, here’s three quickies featuring a gut settling rescue meal, a yummy take on an old nemesis, and why you might wanna eat more hala kahiki.
#1- The Secret One Day “Diet” To Get Over A Sick Stomach…
Ever feel nauseous or queasy? You know…those days when you’re a little less plucky and a lot more pukey? 🤢 On these days, due to the upset, churning of your stomach, you may feel like you never want to eat or drink anything. Ever. Again.
We’ve all been there. Sometimes a victim of our own personal malpractice (drinking to excess) and other times an innocent bystander (hello food poisoning,) these are the days spent feeling our absolute worst.
Here’s a secret that you’ll be thanking me for later…
It’s the blandest combination of starches you could imagine, but it’s absolute magic if you’re lit up with the ick. You might have to choke it down, but these particular foods are great to absorb unfriendly bacteria and enzymes in your stomach to calm that “uneasy” feeling. 😀
Break glass in case of emergency…this is the B.R.A.T. Diet.
B – is for Bananas
R – is for Rice (white)
A – is for Applesauce
T – is for Toast (dry)
No, this won’t show up in an episode of The Bear, but desperate times call for desperate measures. You probably have most, if not all, of these items just hangin’ out in your pantry anyway, but if you don’t, that’s when you discover the beauty of Doordash.
#2 – This is not your momma’s mushy asparagus…these are Baked Parmesan Asparagus Fries! 😋
You’ll need:
1 bundle of asparagus
2 Tablespoons of olive oil
1 cup of flour
2 eggs
1 cup of panko bread crumbs
Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper
– Wash your asparagus stalks and chop or snap off the thick, woody ends
– Lightly coat a baking pan with olive oil and put in the oven while pre-heating to 425
– In three separate shallow bowls: add flour to one, beaten eggs to another, and panko crumbs, parm, salt and pepper to the third
– One at a time, cover your asparagus spears in flour, then dip them into the beaten eggs, and finally roll them in the mixture of bread crumbs, parm, salt and pepper
– Remove hot baking pan from oven. Add coated spears to pan with a little space between them and bake for 10-12 minutes until golden-brown and crispy.
– Remove from oven and pair with a Grilled Chicken Breast or your favorite oven baked Fish.
– Share recipe with your Momma 😉
#3 – Our friend the Pineapple 🍍
Pineapple, or “Hala Kahiki” as it’s known in Hawaii, contains a powerful enzyme called Bromelain that triggers your body’s own ability to reduce inflammation and swelling as well as help clear up respiratory airways affected by allergies and asthma. Whoa, who knew? It’s high in vitamin C, for a healthy immune system and is best when eaten raw and ripe.
Canned is ok for a quick fix, but for freshness and sweetness you can’t get out of a can, take the extra time to buy whole and cut it yourself.
Wonderful in many ways, try a slice cooked over a medium grill for 2 minutes each side and topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon…WOW! And if you’re one of those folks who are adamant that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza, you’re just plain crazy. 😆
